RMR's Engineering Development Program (EDP) is a structured apprenticeship designed to prepare the next generation of building engineers through a combination of hands-on experience, technical education and mentorship. Created in 2019, the program provides a clear pathway into a rewarding career in commercial real estate engineering while helping preserve the expertise that keeps our properties running every day.

Build skills that put you on a path to a successful engineering career

Unlike a traditional internship or job-shadowing program, the Engineering Development Program is designed as a two-year career development pathway with defined milestones, ongoing support and opportunities for advancement. As an apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced engineers in active commercial properties while developing expertise across critical building systems and operations.

Apprentices receive comprehensive training across all aspects of commercial property operations, including:

  • HVAC systems and equipment
  • Electrical systems and infrastructure
  • Plumbing and building maintenance
  • Life-safety systems
  • Building automation and controls
  • Preventive maintenance programs
  • Operational troubleshooting and problem-solving
